Wetsuits are typically constructed from multiple layers arranged to ensure minimal heat loss from the body. A wetsuit works by trapping a small amount of water between your skin and the neoprene of the suit. This trapped water is heated by the body forming a warm barrier between you and the cold water. Simple!

Firstly, boots are designed to keep your feet warm meaning you can stay longer in the water. But second to this, some boast other benefits too. For instance, the split-toe boot is often the first choice for surfers or stand-up paddle boarders. This is because it spreads the weight evenly through your toes and in turn this minimises foot movement inside the boot helping to improve balance. Bonus!
One choice is the new Xcel DRYLOCK 5mm boot. This boot is made from super soft neoprene and is lined with THERMO DRY Celliant (TDC). The TDC material recycles your body heat into infrared energy. Complicated? Maybe, but the result means you stay warmer for longer!
As well as boots, our collection of neoprene gloves come in 1.5mm to 5mm thicknesses. Alternatively to the classic five finger style you can choose a mitten style glove too. Whatever your glove choice, they can be an essential accessory for those fresh winter surfs.
Did you know, most of your body heat is lost through your head? Further to this, it is an affect that tires you out quicker too. As a result, we recommend a hood or cap to help prevent that uncomfortable brain freeze from duck diving and cold winds in the winter months.
Try keeping extra warm with our range of thermal rash vests from Xcel. These rashvests act like a blanket. They provide you with an extra layer underneath your neoprene. As an alternative, you can also try the hooded polypro rash vests.
