For those of you not familiar with this event, it is a 2.4km swim (taken as seriously or un-seriously as you want) across Bigbury Bay, starting outside The Pilchard Inn, Burgh Island. Swimmers will make their way across the middle of bay and into the river mouth. Once there, the swim will take you up the River Avon, finishing at the slip way of the Bantham Sailing Club. The last section of the race will involve a short run (or walk) up the hill to The Sloop Inn, Bantham, and they will be rewarded with a cold beer and a pasty.
All proceeds will be split between Bantham Surf Life Saving Club and Bantham Sailing Club.
Individual prizes for top men and women, and a prize for the best village will be given at the prize giving afterwards- Bantham, Thurlestone, West Buckland or The Rest Of The World being the ‘teams’.
This is a great event for those getting into open water swimming, or those wanting to experience a bit of fun and beautiful scenery on the South Devon coastline.
Some timings and details:
1. Swimmers swim and their own risk and wetsuits are recommended
2. BSLSC safety support will be available throughout the swim
