Returning Trends: The return of the fish

Catch waves easily, and experience the smooth glide and flow of having no centre fin, with the rail drive of a large keel fin.

They say that fashion trends swing in round, we’ve seen neon colours and vintage clothing coming back around. The same with surfing, once an icon of the 70’s the twin keel fin fish is back. Even the WSL events in Jefferey’s Bay, South Africa held a twin fin arm of the competition, which you can see below.

Speaking to local shaper Luke Young, he’s notice the increase in twin fin fish orders. This is made obvious in his instagram an Facebook pages, where the first few images on his page are custom orders of his new and improved fish model the Mahi 2. Those guys you’ve seen ripping your local break on tiny grovel boards, or high performance shortboards are now adding the twinny to their quiver, and it’s easy to see why….

With the wider and flatter profiles, the twin fin fish gives great paddling speed and can glide into waves almost effortlessly. Whilst the twin fin characteristics give the board speed and elegance on the full face of the wave. Luke has taken the traditionally inspired retro twin fin fish, and added a modern, high performance twist to it. Catch waves easily, and experience the smooth glide and flow of having no centre fin, with the rail drive of a large keel fin.

A match made in heaven: Luke Young Mahi2 with the Scarfini Futures Eco Keel fin.

Now here’s some of the pros swapping their high performance sticks for twin fin fish’, and absolutely ripping.
