Despite the current webcast technical difficulties, the Billabong Pro Tour Rio De Janerio, Brazil has commenced in 3-4 foot sunny conditions.

The previous Men’s ASP World Tour event took place on Bells Beach, Australia, where Mick Fanning defeated 11 time world champion Kelly Slater in the final.

In the women’s world title, the previous event took place on Dee Why, Northern Australia, where rookie surfer Courtney Conlogue. The Californian took top honours, defeating Hawaiian rookie Malia Manuel in the final.

So far the men’s and women’s world title run top five looks like this but could well change with the top seed Kelly Slater pulling out of this leg of the competition due to injury:

FCS is pleased to announce the re-signing of Julian Wilson and Gabriel Medina to their global surf team. Following a remarkable 12 months of success highlighted by multiple victories, both surfers were keen to maintain their commitment to the Genuine FCS products that have assisted in maximising their surfing performance.

2010 saw the release of Julian’s signature fin the FCS JW-1, a fin that’s become highly popular among professional and recreational surfers around the world. In the latter half of 2011 Jules hit his straps in the competitive arena securing a string of final berths and a top ten finish on the ASP ratings.

Under the new agreement Julian will ride the FCS systems and fins, including the Genuine X-2 and Fusion plugs, exclusively for the next three years. After penning the agreement Jules commented on his confidence in the partnership and the products.

“The way I see it, FCS is unchallenged for the best system and fins available, so I couldn’t be happier to continue the great relationship while working closely on developing my fins even further”.

Medina was another standout on the ASP World Tour during 2011. After joining the tour at the mid year rotation Gabriel went on to win two events confirming he’ll be a legitimate title contender in years to come. Regarded is a very versatile fin for wide range of conditions, its no surprise Gabriel’s fin of choice continues to be the FCS PC-5.

Gabriel’s ongoing agreement covers multiple product categories including FCS board bags, leashes, luggage and accessories. The deal also includes Gorilla tractions pads, with a new signature Medina pad set to feature in the 2013 range.

FCS Brand Ambassador Richie Lovett commented after both surfers had put pen to paper. “FCS is really happy to continue our relationship with these two amazing surfers. These guys represent the future of our sport and together they’ll no doubt win multiple World Titles. To perform at their best these guys need the best equipment and we’re more than happy to supply it”.

Although this may be an old video, I still enjoy watching it. I reminds me of the good times the Triocean Team had in Morocco in November; the warm weather, great colours, great sights and long right-hand point breaks.

Here is a video of Ben Skinner, owner of Skindog Surfboards enjoying the surf and talking about his future…..well current plans (video was shot 2010).

One of Ben Skinners projects, which has sold very well, and is a favorite with Ben’s sponsored riders, is the Skindog LUFI. Check out out Skindog Lufi here on the Triocean site.

This is even the chosen board for Ben Skinner’s and Triocean Surf’s sponsored rider and Bantham local Ben Howey.

Anyways here is the video of Ben Skinner in Dakhla, Morocco:

The results of this event have really messed my my Fantasy Surf score, putting me in last place for my league. Need to choose better for the next event when the WCT surfers travel to Bell’s Beach for the Ripcurl Pro in 3 weeks time.

For now here are the highlights of the finals day:

Check it out, together with Matt Adams, of Adams Industries we have developed a shortboard that will perform well, and will not break the bank account.

Matt Adams has been shaping in out of Newquay, which is arguably the hotspot of British Surfing, for about 18 years. He has shaped at all the top surf board factories throughout his career, from working at Ocean Magic, Beach Beat, Factory 52, Black n White, Phoenix to working with the legendary world famous Eric Arakawa from Hawaii.

When looking at new boards for 2012, we wanted to know what were the boards that sold well within the UK. And whilst on blank deliveries spoke to different shapers on their best sellers and current projects. The outcome was that for the UK, the best sellers tended to be wider and thicker; and so that is what we have had Matt Adams create.

The extra width and thickness help you board paddle into sloppy waves, whilst the wider tail will give more speed off turns and in paddling. This slightly lowered nose rocker helps with planing speed, but has enough lift to be forgiving on a steeper wave. The tail has been given a slight lift too, with a double concave to give the board a loose feel.

This board would work best on 1ft-4ft day and comes in a size range from 5’11″, 6’1″ or 6’3″, sprays are loud and attractive, so why not check them out.

The first of the ASP WCT 2012 world tour events started on 25th February at Queenslands Snapper Rocks, Australia.

As the competition has progressed we have seen some big names knocked out in the early stages such as Mick Fanning, John John Florence and Dane Reynolds.

However it has set us up for an unmissable men’s finals:

Heat 1: Owen Wright vs Adriano De Souza
Heat 2: Kelly Slater vs Josh Kerr
Heat 3: Jordy Smith vs Joel Parkinson
Heat 4: Taj Burrow vs Adrian Buchan.

As expected the Australians have been dominating this even with five man representation in the finals, and local Joel Parkinson scoring the first perfect 10 wave score. But as you know nothing is set in stone as Jordy Smith, Taj Burrow and Kelly Slater have been looking strong with some powerful and technical surfing.

In the Roxy Pro we have reached an all Australian Semi-Finals where the heats are as follows:

Heat 1: Tyler Wright vs Laura Enever
Heat 2: Sally Fitzgibbons vs Stephanie Gilmore

Who have you got left on your Fantasy Surf Team?

Here are some round 3 highlights.
